Works in Progress

Hello!

In this post I will be sharing the last 2 of the 4 shades from upcoming SPRING FLING collection.
I haven't had time for proper swatches yet, but I'm dying to show these off!

so heeeeeeeere we go........

In Bloom from the SPRING FLING Collection
I dare you to tell me this doesn't scream spring to you! A glorious mix of pastel dots in blue, peach, yellow and lavender, three sizes of white hexes, a sprinkle of small green hexes and a dash silver microglitter. It reminds me of a spring bouquet or a basket of easter eggs. So cute!

Tempts Are Rising from the SPRING FLING Collection
Ok, so my apologies for the not so great pic - but I tells ya my camera hates capturing holo!!
This is our first true linear holographic shade. Our previous holos have a glow, this one has a flame.
Hot fuchsia to match your spring fever!

These shades will be debuted at KUUMBA, an Afro-Latin cultural festival happening here in Toronto at Harbourfront Centre. They will be available at our Etsy store next week.

Sneak Peek for Spring 2015

Hello!

Sorry for the long absence. Between holidays, new jobs, new endeavors and all other kinds of life obstacles, it's been hard to keep this updated - but never fear!

We've been in the lab, cooking up some hot new stuff for Spring 2015!
Here's a quick look at 2 of the 4 shades from our upcoming SPRING FLING Collection.

First up, LESS DRESSED.

Less Dressed from the SPRING FLING Collection

I adore this unique shade of blush-mauve with a gorgeous holographic glow. In some light the gold shimmer really warms the color, and in other light cooler undertones come out to play. This is the pink cousin to one of our best sellers, Flaunt It!

Allan Gardens Affair from the SPRING FLING Collection

Allan Gardens Affair, a tropical green with a subtly shifting shimmer. The shimmer looks golden most of the time, but flashes coppery pink at the right angles, giving off a beautiful warm glow. This got me a lot of compliments at work!

These shades will be debuted this weekend at KUUMBA, an Afro-Latin cultural festival at Harbourfront Centre here in Toronto. They will be available at our Etsy shop next week!

Killer Customs!

Hello!

Our incredibly supportive friend is turning the big three-oh!

To celebrate we decided to make some cheeky customs that highlight her sense of humour.
No Pants No Problem is an intensely sparkly raspberry loaded with gold holographic shimmer.
Swipe Right is a bright blue packed with gold glitter and more holo dust!

We at CANVAS really do love to make polishes from things that inspire us, and making custom shades for someone can sometimes be challenging, but it's so rewarding to truly make something bespoke and special.

The holidays are coming so if you want to treat someone, or yourself (!), to a custom lacquer, please contact us sooner than later to ensure your order is on time. Anyone in the local area is welcome to pick up their purchases at our pop-up event on Dec 6 - you could even get your nails did with your custom that day by 10/10 Nail Design.

It's like win, win, win no matter what! (Didn't think you'd find T-Pain quotes on this blog, didja?!?)

See you soon!

Meet Aunt Opal - Sneak Peek!

Hello!

Time for another preview of polish to come! The second installment to our Vintages collection is Aunt Opal - so classic!

Aunt Opal by CANVAS lacquer
This is a clear based topper that can turn almost any existing shade into an extraordinary opalescent gem for your nails! It's full of multi-coloured subtly shifting flakies, small iridescent hexes and a smidgeon of rainbow holographic shimmer.
I'm sure we all know someone that only wears sheer, mother of pearl type shades, so even the most conservative of lacquerists can wear this - might look actually kinda cool on a bare nail - not that I would know - can never go nekkie! ha!

This will be released with The Good Silver and one more shade (it's still under wraps right now!) in the coming weeks.

Don't forget about our pop-up event Dec 6 for all you local peeps!

Bling It On

Hello!

We're getting into the spirit of things with the release of this super sparkly gold glitter topper.
The complexity and depth of this lacquer is impossible to capture in pictures, but the holo and metallic catch so much light you won't stop staring at your nails!

ALL.GOLD.EVERYTHING.

This is now available at our Etsy store!

Triple CANVAS Gradient!

Hello!

This gradient uses all 3 of our soft holographic shades. It's beautiful and I am so proud to say that these are our lacquers!!

CANVAS x 3
This is Flaunt It! Hand of the King and Polar Bear Dip.

aaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhh! love it!
I was initially going for something more tribal print, and I think I may have possibly achieved that had I stamped with black. Obviously going with the white gives it a wintery holiday sweater/tights kinda vibe. Yes, a bit early - but I don't care cuz I luuurrvs it anywayzzz
This image is from BundleMonster 102 and I used Rica Whiteout. I'm finding this polish much easier to use than my Konad White!!!

These 3 shades are all available at our Etsy store right now!

Polar Bear Dip - CANVAS the City

Hello!

Check out these awesome swatches of our just released POLAR BEAR DIP.
Available at our Etsy store now!

Direct light
Diffused light

Each photo is two easy coats, no top coat. I find topcoat (seche vite) does dull the holo glow a tiny bit, but it also deepens the shade and really makes the shimmer pop.

Obviously we love all our creations, but wow, I am so head over heels for this one!

31DC2014, Day 6 - Violet

Hello!

Day 6 - Violet

So I finally dipped into a holo AND a CANVAS lacquer for this challenge!

Girly and sweet - not like me at all! ha.
The base is OPI Don't Bossa Nova Me Around, and the gradient uses L'Oreal Royalty Reinvented and CANVAS lacquer Orchids. IRL you could see s a bit of the shimmer in Orchids on the tips and had a really pretty effect.

For the stamping I used Color Club Eternal Beauty and Pueen Encore 02A. Surprisingly there was still a beautiful linear effect on the nail.

Even though this is not my usual steez, I still really liked this.

CANVAS lacquer Release - GIRL GANG TRIO

Hello!

One of the reasons I've been so busy the past week was because we were making batches of our latest collection!

The Girl Gang Trio is a capsule collection we created inspired by the strength of so many awesome women we know and admire.

Flaunt It! is a gorgeous nude/champagne lacquer with a beautiful holographic glow and golden shimmer. Perfect for both the conservative and the sassy.

Flaunt it if you got it, girl!
Blood Sisters is a vampy, blackened bloody plum crelly with the opacity of a creme but the glossiness of a jelly. An edgy shade that's right on trend.

Love this lacquer for life
G.I. Jane is a complex olive/bronze shade packed with golden micro-flake shimmer, copper glow and sparks of blue and green.

This shade will definitely command attention.
SO excited about this mini collectionm - hope you enjoy it too! Visit the Etsy shop here.

This one almost got away...

Hello!

Sometimes life just starts racing around you and you almost forget to post a mani!

This is a little quickie I did using holographics and playing with the Pueen Encore plates.

I started with Darling Diva Killer Queen on my thumb, middle and ring finger. Index and pinky are Darling Diva We Will Rock You. They're both really pretty shifty holos.
I got curious and wanted to see how the holo flame would play if I added more holo to the tips. Hands down, the strongest linear holos in my collection are the Layla's. On the thumb, middle and ring I added Ultra Violet to the tips, and Emerald Divine to my index and pinky. The effect is subtle but I like it.

I stamped with images from Pueen plate 02A and nOPI Positive Energy. This was also another chance for me to play with my new squishy stamper, and I gotta say I don't know if I'm head over heels. I love how much the images wrap around the nail and get into my cuticles and cover my tips, but I'm still struggling to get image pick ups as clean and crisp and whole as my harder Konad stamper. Do I need even more priming? I'm afraid to go too far!

More holo! More floral!

Hello!

If you follow the canvaslacquer Instagram account you may have seen this a few days ago. I'm kind of new to this whole nail social media thing, so I'm happy to report this has so far been my most 'liked' look.

I started with 2 coats of a-England Her Rose Adagio. Not sure why the pink doesn't really come through in photos, but it's a beautiful shade (and I'm not typically big on soft pink). For added interest I dabbed on a bit of a-England Dancing with Nureyev. The blue seems to read a bit better than the pink, but overall it comes off sorta silvery.

For the branches I used a-England Briarwood, an amazing brown holo that also stamps beautifully. I used Vivid Lacquer plate 014. Next for the leaves I used Pueen 33 with my usual OPI Amazon...Amazoff, the only non-holo polish for this look, I have plenty of green holos that probably do stamp well, I just thought it might clash too much with all the other holo going on so I opted for a creme. Finally, with a dotting tool for the flowers I used Colors by Llarowe OABTRAD. The little centers are Color Club Kismet.

passiflora
I've been trying to incorporate more visual interest in my nail pics, but I find holding an item and positioning my hand for the photo at the same time incredibly awkward! So here's a rando photo of me trying to pose with one of my passionflower vines.

Do you guys prefer JUST the nails or do like seeing someone posing with something?

Holo Meltdown, Drips

Hello!

Nothing new about 'drips' in nail art, but I had never done a drip mani before, and since I'm on a holo kick right now, this is what I came up with.

holo drips in direct sun

To achieve this look I started with 2 coats of I Love Nail Polish Bottle Service. I really like this shade, you don't see 'warm' silvers too often, but this has an almost imperceptible rose-gold glow from within.

in shade
Very carefully, using the bottle brush, I painted on thin streaks of 3 colours on each nail: Emily de Molly Cool, Calm & Collected (turquoise-y blue), Cirque Vesuvius (deep pink), and Emily de Molly Moment of Impact (purple).

in shade
I then went back with different sized dotting tools and added a final 'drip' to the end of the streaks.
I considered adding more shading to make it all appear more 3D, but opted out - I find holographic polish obscures details, but maybe next time I try a drip mani I'll use cremes.

direct sun
I'm pleased with my first try, and I'm happy to add this staple "nail art look" into my repertoire.

Holographic Mix with Floral Accents

Hello!

I haven't featured holos in awhile (which is odd since I LOVE holos), so here we go!

So I could utilize many shades, I decided to try the dry brush method to get this cool mix of holographic goodness.

I started with 2 coats of A-England Fonteyn. Then with very little polish on the brush, I randomly splotched on the following: Layla Emerald Divine (green), Color Club Eternal Beauty (purple), Colors by Llarowe OABTRAD (deep pink), and Liquid Sky Lacquer Swerve (blue).

I added the floral image from Pueen 72 using Konad Gold Black. The image was a bit lost at first, so to highlight it a bit I filled the flowers in, using a very light hand and a small brush, with Gosh 24HR Holographic. The difference is subtle but I love effect.

It's so hard not to stare at this mani when it's sparkling in the sun!

Another CANVAS the City Swatch

Hello!

I'm not going to tell you what we're calling this one since we're still considering our options, but I couldn't wait to share it because it is so unique and fun.

The base of this one is a little hard to describe, not to mention it's a bit of a chameleon. It's a cross between silver and gold, with subtle flashes of rosy pink. There's also an awesome holographic glow. But the mix of neon glitters in different shades and shapes are what really make this polish so fun and funky!

indirect indoor lighting

direct sun
As you can see, in the sun the holo halo is more visible, and the base warms up and appears more gold, and you can finally see a bit of that rosy flash.

I included this slightly out of focus shot to show off the holo glow better.

This is one of four polishes left in our CANVAS the City collection that will be released this weekend. Get yours at www.etsy.com/shop/canvaslacquer

Happy painting!

More CANVAS the City previews!

Hello!

Two more additions to our Toronto inspired collection are coming to our Etsy store this week!

Ferry to the Island and Caribana Parade
Ferry to the Island is a beautiful blue with minty green shimmer, blue dots, ocean green hex, satin white glitters and green micro holo sparks.

Caribana Parade is a super bright coral with a mix of yellow and orange hexes, a sprinkling of red holo glitters and a great gold shimmer.

Can't wait for summer in our fair city!!!

Spongey Coloured Floral, Nails of the Day

Hello!

I thought about continuing with my monochrome theme, but the weather has been too nice not to do something more bright and summery.

I started with a base of a-England Encore Margot, a gorgeous silvery holo that has not been justice by my photos. I really wanted to see how cremes and a holo base would play together so I grabbed bondi nyc The Limelight (bright green), Essie Come Here (coral) and a blue Misa I can never remember the name of!

before the stamping
I quite like the look of this before the stamping. I really wish the holo translated better, it looks SO COOL in the sun, but I didn't get a chance for a photo.
I used a Pueen plate and Konad Gold Black for the flowers and dots.

I did my best to offset the stamping so I wouldn't cover up too much of the holo base and the sponged colours. I like the final result, and it matched my mood and the weather! I feel like there's got to be a dress or two out there that this would pair up perfectly with.

Holy Holo! Nails of the Day

Hello!
I wanted to something a bit “simpler” today, but it didn’t turn out quite as simple as I had hoped.
Most people use a sponging technique when creating gradients. Unfortunately, sponging typically eliminates the linear ‘flame’ in holographic polishes, so I simply used careful application using the bottle brushes to get this look.

diffused lamp light
My thumb to middle finger required a lot of fussing.  I had to apply a lot of different shades to get a good gradient. My ring and pinky finger were totally easy and turned out exactly as I pictured in my head!

direct sunlight
Lacquers used from thumb to pinky: Colors by Llarowe Black Gold, Texas Tea, Color Club Beyond, Layla Coffee Love, Color Club Eternal Beauty, Layla Ultra Violet, Cirque Bejeweled, Glitter Gal Bondi Blue, Liquid Sky Lacquer Swerve, Layla Emerald Divine, Color Club Kismet. I had originally tried using Femme Fatale Ink of the Sea as a purple to blue transition, but it really didn’t work.
